A British judge has granted bail to Julian Assange, founder of the WikiLeaks website responsible for the release of several top secret U.S. diplomatic documents.
The 39-year-old Australian had been in a London prison for a week. Assange surrendered to Scotland Yard after an arrest warrant was filed against him in a Swedish sex-crimes investigation.
British authorities were concerned that government websites could be attacked in retaliation if he was not released.
A decision to extradite Assange is expected in the next several weeks.
