Nineteen flood victims feared dead have been found alive on Portugal's island nation of Madeira.

Divers and sniffer dogs were working around the clock to locate more than a dozen others.

Weekend storms brought a months worth of rain in eight hours. Mudslides tossed cars like toys, snapped trees, and swept people out to sea.

The death toll stands at 42. Portugal has set aside the next three days to mourn the victims.

Madeira is a popular tourist destination, located about 300 miles off the west coast of Africa.
