Pope Benedict asked for forgiveness Friday from God and from the victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests.

The pope spoke at a mass in Saint Peter's Square celebrating the end of the "Year of the Priest."

Benedict lamented the "sins of priests" in what he said should have been a year of joy for the priesthood.

Benedict also promised to do everything possible to ensure that such abuse will never happen again.
