Extreme poverty and poor hygiene have contributed to high disease rates among some of the children in the South American nation of Peru.
Up to half the children in some areas have parasites, which can devour more than 25 percent of a child's food intake. Such internal infestation leads to malnutrition and other chronic health problems.
In response, Operation Blessing International has distributed anti-parasite pills to more than 6,000 children in three Peruvian communities.
So far this year, the charity aid organization has given more than 844,000 pills to churches and other groups for distribution. The ministry's goal is to help 4 million children by the end of the year.
Operation Blessing has also been teaching families about proper hygiene techniques to help prevent re-infestation.
