More than a dozen countries are being warned to fight human trafficking or face possible sanctions from the United States.
Countries including Iran, North Korea, and Cuba are on America's annual list of worst offenders.
The State Department reports more women and girls around the world are being forced to become sex slaves.
"Behind the statistics on the pages are the struggles of real human beings, the tears of families who may never see their children again, the despair and indignity of those suffering under the worst forms of exploitation," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.
For the first time this year, the U.S. is included in the report.
