The Christian Broadcasting Network's ministry Orphan's Promise has started Vidya Jyothi, a literacy program in India.
When translated in English, vidya means "education" and jyothi means "light."
The vocational program is meant to enhance the lives of poverty-stricken children and orphans. The goal is to help children break the cycle of poverty by teaching them better standards of living.
Children also learn Bible verses and songs to develop their relationship with God.
More than 10 centers have been set up across India.
To date, more than 2,500 children are enrolled in classes and 90 percent of them have accepted Christ as their Savior.
