'Soles4Souls' Helps Poor Walk a Better Path

Recent numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau confirm that more people in the U.S. are joining the ranks of the "working-age poor."

Nearly 44 million people -- or one in seven Americans -- lived at the poverty level in 2009. The number is up more than 13 percent from 2008 and is at its highest level since 1965.

Wayne Elsey, founder of Soles4Souls, works to help those who are struggling in the U.S. and around the world. As a former footwear company executive, Elsey started the ministry to provide shoes free of charge to those in need.

It started as an effort to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, has since spread into 125 countries. Since 2005, Soules4Souls has distributed more than 10 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes.

CBN News spoke with Elsey about his ministry, its purpose and how he is making a difference for those living in poverty. Click play for his comments.
