A lawyer for three American missionaries, said the Haitian government has dropped kidnapping charges against nine of 10 Americans arrested in January.

The missionaries were arrested trying to take a busload of 33 children from Haiti to an orphanage in the Dominican Republic. Nine of them were later released and allowed to return home.

Laura Silsby, the group's leader, is still being held in a Port-au-Prince jail.

Caleb Stegall, an attorney for three of the missionaries told The Associated Press that the State Department informed him that the charges were to be dropped.

"It's something that we were very much expecting, so it's not a surprise," Stegall told Topeka, Kans. news station KTKA.

"But certainly it's a vindication of what we've known all along which what we've known all along. There was no wrongdoing," he said. "They were confident that the truth was ultimately going to be revealed."
