Chinese Christians Released from Custody

Ad Feedback

Chinese authorities have released more than 100 churchgoers arrested for worshipping in a public park.

As many as 169 members of Beijing's Shouwang Church were taken into custody April 10.

The church's pastor Jin Tianming and his wife remain under house arrest.

Undercover footage from the service showed congregants attempting to hold service outside as police surrounded them.

The church was evicted from its usual meeting place after the government put pressure on the landlord. Shouwang is one of China's largest unregistered churches.

Leaders of the church insist that no laws were broken and insist that the government give them permission to worship indoors.
