Pope Benedict XVI has exonerated the Jewish people for the death of Christ.
In his new book, "Jesus of Nazareth," Benedict said there is no scriptural basis to blame the Jewish nation for Jesus' death.
Contradicting interpretations had been used for centuries to justify persecution of Jews.
Jewish scholars said the pope's declaration will help fight anti-semitism.
"Jesus of Nazareth" is a two-part book, with the first half being released in 2007. The second installment is set to be released March 10, and discusses Christ's life, death and resurrection.
