Clashes in the contested Sudanese city of Abyei continued Monday, threatening a return of Muslims and Christians back to warring against each other.

The flashpoint town was burned and looted by armed men, the U.N. mission said.

According to the Southern Sudanese military, northern army attacks suggest the north is moving to carry out a "full scale war" in the region.
Northern government troops have reportedly occuppied Abyei. The city is part of a disputed oil rich region of Sudan and is the main issue of contention in the days leading up to southern Sudanese secession on July 9.

Sr. International Correspondent Gary Lane talked more about the Sudanese unrest on the CBN News Channel's Midday News, May 23.
