Iran Pastor's Case Referred to Supreme Leader

The attorney representing Youcef Nadarkhani, the Iranian pastor facing a death sentence for refusing to recant his faith, says his client's case is being referred to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.

Khamenei is the final authority in Iran.

According to Agency France Presse, the move suggests the verdict could be delayed.

Jordan Sekulow, director of policy and international operations for the American Center for Law & Justice, talked more about the significance of Ayatollah Khamenei's involvement.  Click play for his comments.

Meanwhile, a new bipartisan effort is underway in Congress to secure the pastor's freedom.

In a letter signed by at least 39 Congressmen, lawmakers called Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to "use all the powers at your disposal" for "swift engagement with the international community to advocate for his release."

The ACLJ is calling on people to join Congress in urging Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to put pressure on Iran to release Pastor Youcef:

The American Center for Law and Justice has also sent a letter to the United Nations calling for pressure on Iran to immediately and unconditionally release Pastor Youcef. Read the letter.
