Sam Childers once lived a life of bar fights, alcohol, and drugs. But an encounter with Jesus Christ changed him - and his life's mission forever.
Now Childers' mission is to save the lives of east African children.
Childers is not your typical pastor. He's a gun-toting preacher from Pennsylvania who has rescued hundreds of kidnapped and abused children from the fighting in Uganda and the Sudan.
He's established several orphanages to house them, including one that CBN News visited several years ago in Nimule, Sudan.
The Christian Broadcasting Network helped to build several of its dormitories.
Two years ago, Childers spoke to CBN News about his book titled, Another Man's War. It details his life's journey from a motorcycle gang member to a Christian rescuer of children.
"Everything that has happened to me in life is because of Christ," he said.
Now his story is being told in the new motion picture, "Machine Gun Preacher," starring Gerard Butler.
The movie is expected to be released this fall by the Relativity Media.
