Christians pilgrims from around the world gathered for prayer in Jerusalem to mark Good Friday, the day before Passover biblically noted to be the day Jesus was crucified.
Holy Week celebrations began on Palm Sunday.
Friday, pilgrims walked along the same route Jesus took before his crucifixion. Worshippers also gathered at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to remember Christ's sacrifice.
"We thank God for Jesus, that God loved us so much that He sent His son to die for us, that He nailed His son to a cross," a church leader said. "So we could be reconciled to Him, so we could come into a relationship with Him, God did everything just for us."
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is believed by many to be built on the site where Jesus was crucified and buried.
