US Carrier Heads to Gulf Ahead of Iran Nuke Talks

The U.S. Navy is sending a second aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf as tensions rise with Iran over its nuclear program.

The nuclear-powered USS Enterprise along the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group will patrol strategic oil routes that the Islamic Republic has threatened to close off in the past.

The warships will also support the U.S. mission in Afghanistan and take part in anti-piracy efforts.

The move comes ahead of high-stakes talks aimed at convincing Tehran officials to shut down its nuclear facility.

"Time is short. Iran's leaders must understand they, too, face a choice," President Obama warned. "Iran must act with the seriousness that this moment demands."

This is only the fourth time the United States has deployed two carriers to the region at the same time.
