The White House has given $1.5 billion in foreign aid to Egypt despite concerns the North African nation is reneging on its promise to implement a democratic-style government.
The move comes after recent meetings in Washington between U.S. officials and the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Obama administration said it's important to engage all of the parties in Egypt, including the Muslim Brotherhood.
White House officials also said the administration wants to encourage Egypt to move toward democracy.
Some in Congress wanted the money to be given out in portions, rather than all at once.
