A leading Muslim cleric says if Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Mursi wins Egypt's presidency, Jerusalem -- not Cairo -- will become the new capital.
In a video aired by Egypt's religious Annas TV on Tuesday, Safwat Hegazy boldly proclaimed, "Our capital shall not be Cairo, Mecca or Medina."
"It shall be Jerusalem with God's will," he said. "Our chants shall be 'millions of martyrs will march towards Jerusalem'."
Hegazy went on to tell the campaign rally crowd in the city of Mahalla that either Egyptian Islamists will pray in the streets of Jerusalem or be martyred there.
The video has gone viral after being posted to YouTube.
Mursi will challenge Ahmed Shafiq, Egypt's former prime minister.
Many view a vote for Shafiq would symbolize a return to the norm and signal the end of a revolution while a vote for Mursi could spell a political shift to the Islamic movement that's monopolized power since the uprising.
A run-off election is scheduled for next week.
