Dramatic video released Thursday by the United States military shows a rare, close-up view of an American military chopper losing control and crashing in Afghanistan.
The helicopter drops down low, skimming the snow and hits the ground hard. It appears to pull up but then begins spinning before finally crashing in the distance.
Both pilots on board survived the incident, thanks to a safety harnesses.
A spokesman for the U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force said the video was shot on Feb. 6 in Paktika province.
It's believed the pilots may have lost control of the chopper while performing a risky, low-level maneuver.
