The United States government has warned American citizens in the Philippine capital of Manila to be on alert for security threats in the area.
In an emergency message Friday, the U.S. Embassy in Manila said "reliable security forces" detected a threat in suburban Pasay City.
The U.S. embassy has a residential are and a veterans affairs office there.
Americans have been instructed to avoid gatherings that may be regarded as "American events" and exercise extreme caution through October 10th.
After the violent protests in Libya, the embassy has requested additional police security.
