Secretary of State John Kerry is asking the government of Iran to release three U.S. citizens.
One of them is Pastor Saeed Abedini, who has been sentenced to eight years in Iran's brutal Evin prion for his faith.
Pastor Abedini is a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen. In a statement Wednesday Kerry pointed out Abedini has spent almost one year in prison in Iran, "sentenced on charges related to his religious beliefs."
In his letter, Kerry appealed to Iran's new leader, saying President Hassan Rouhani has expressed interest in improving Iran's relations with the U.S.
"These men belong at home with those who love them and miss them," he said.
