State Dept. Calls for N. Korea to Free US Missionary

The U.S. State Department is calling on North Korea to immediately release American tour guide and missionary Kenneth Bae.

The North Korean government arrested Bae last November for sharing his faith, which they called "hostile acts to bring down its government," and sentenced him to 15 years hard labor.

Bae, who suffers from several health problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and an enlarged heart, has recently been experiencing dizziness and blurred vision. He has lost more than 50 pounds since his arrest.

He was hospitalized last week when his health took a turn for the worse. His family fears he won't survive much longer under North Korea's harsh prison conditions.

A State Department spokesman said North Korea should grant the 45-year-old American amnesty.
