Skeptics in the European Union are seeking a tighter flow of data after revelations of U.S. surveillance in European countries and around the world.

But some lawmakers in the United States are saying tighter restrictions would threaten American businesses.

A bi-partisan group in the U.S. House of Representatives is insisting the Obama administration demand U.S. allies back away from proposed restrictions on international data.

Tighter restrictions could hurt companies that rely on collecting data across borders, like Google, Facebook, and Amazon.
