Two courts in Europe ruled in favor of homosexuals seeking to adopt children.

In Germany, the high court ruled that one member in a civil partnership can adopt their partner's stepchild or adopted child.

Gay couples are not allowed to marry in Germany but are recognized in civil unions. However, they still are not allowed to adopt children as a couple.

In another case, the European Court of Human Rights overruled an Austrian court ruling forbidding a lesbian to adopt her partner's son.
