The Arabic news network Al-Jazeera has bought U.S. cable channel Current TV, co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore.
Al-Jazeera has tried for years to reach a larger audience in the United States, but this new deal might not help them.
Soon after it was confirmed, Time Warner Cable, the nation's second largest TV operator, dropped Current TV from its lineup.
"Our agreement with Current has been terminated and we will no longer be carrying the service. We are removing the service as quickly as possible," the company said in a statement.
The new channel is scheduled to begin broadcasting this year.
