Aid groups say the greatest victims of the Syrian uprising against President Bashar Assad has been Syria's children.
Wednesday marked the second anniversary of the war's outbreak. Groups like UNICEF and the Violations Documentation Center in Syria warn that nearly 2 million Syrian children are facing malnutrition, disease, and severe trauma on account of the civil war.
Hundreds of thousands of children have dropped out of school and many have been forced to beg for money in Lebanon.
A report issued by UNICEF Tuesday said rape, unrelenting violence, population displacement, and community infrastructure damage could scar an entire generation.
"As millions of children inside Syria and across the region witness their past and their futures disappear amidst the rubble and destruction of this prolonged conflict, the risk of them becoming a lost generation grows every day," UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake said.
