North Korea Detains 85-Year-Old American Veteran

Ad Feedback

North Korea has detained another American, this time an 85-year-old veteran of the Korean War.

Merrill Newman took a sight-seeing trip to North Korea in late October.

According to Newman's son, North Korean officials took him off his plane as he was set to depart Pyongyang. It's not clear why.

Newman's son said he is in close contact with the U.S. State Department. The elderly war veteran is the sixth American taken into custody by North Korea since 2009.

One of them, missionary Kenneth Bae, is still being held.
