Twenty-one nations in the Middle East and nearby regions say the eradication of polio is an emergency priority.

The World Health Organization said the nations believe Pakistan is a key part of the problem.

According to the health agency, the joint resolution is calling on Pakistan to quickly vaccinate all its children to prevent the virus from spreading internationally.

The WHO says the polio virus has been confirmed in 13 of 22 children in a northern Syrian province where the children became paralyzed.

Experts say the Syria outbreak comes from a strain in Pakistan.
