Americans Captured in Nigerian Pirate Attack

Two Americans are missing after a pirate attack off the coast of Nigeria.

Military officials say pirates stormed an American supply ship, taking the ship's captain and chief engineer captive.

They were the only two Americans on board. Experts say they were likely taken because the pirates knew they could get a good ransom.

"We are closely monitoring reports that two U.S. citizens have been kidnapped from a U.S.-flagged vessel, the C-Retriever, in the Gulf of Guinea," the U.S. State Department said in a statement. "We are seeking additional information about the incident."

Analysts say since the Americans are probably being held on land, there is little chance of a military rescue.
