Forbes magazine has listed Russian President Vladimir Putin as the world's most powerful leader, bumping President Barack Obama to second place.
It was the first time ever Putin took the top slot, usually occupied by the U.S. president.
Forbes said the Russian president has solidified power over his country, while Obama just endured a 16-day government shutdown.
Putin also outmaneuvered Obama in the standoff over Syria's chemical weapons and made the United States look weak by granting asylum to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden.
The annual list can be viewed on the magazine's website.
