Major Aftershock Triggers New Evacuations in Chile

The north coast of Chile was rocked by another earthquake Wednesday night, prompting a new round of evacuations.
The 7.6 aftershock came one day after an 8.2 quake hit the region, killing six people.

No one died in the latest tremor, but once again thousands ran into the streets to escape shaking buildings.

"I was evacuated like all citizens," Chilean President Michelle Bachelet tweeted early Thursday. "One can see that the people are prepared."

The evacuation order was lifted at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday. There were no reports of major damage or injuries.
Chile sits on an arc of volcanoes and fault lines known as the Ring of Fire, making it prone to earthquakes.
