Surprise Victories, Defeats Mark Olympic Close

The close of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Sunday was marked with many surprising victories and disappointing defeats.

Russia came away the big winner, with 33 medals, 13 of which were gold. The United States finished with 28 medals, including nine gold.

Team USA failed to take home medals in speed skating for the first time since 1984, and there were no individual figure skating medals for the first time since 1936.

Norway won 11 gold medals and 26 overall, followed by Canada with 10 medals.
