Guidelines for 'Sharia compliant' wills could open the door to recognizing Islamic law in the United Kingdom, Britain's The Telegraph reports.

The new guidelines, produced by the Law Society, will allow lawyers to draft Islamic wills that are compliant with U.K. law even though they discriminate against non-Muslims, women and adopted children.

Such wills could give a woman a lesser share of an inheritance than a man, prevent unbelievers from receiving an inheritance and exclude adopted children as legitimate heirs.

Critics of the guidelines warned they're a step towards establishing a parallel legal system in the UK.
