Fowle Deliberately Left Bible in N. Korea Nightclub

Jeffrey Fowle, an American Christian who was detained in North Korea for six months, said he intentionally left his Bible in a nightclub in hopes it would get to the underground Church.

North Korea released Fowle last month and he's now back home with his family in Ohio.

Fowle was taken into custody in April after authorities discovered a Bible with his name in it under a trash can in the washroom of the nightclub.

"I had brought an English-Korean Bible with me on the tour with the hopes of getting it into the hands of the underground Christian Church," he explained.

"It was clearly against DPRK law but being a Christian believer, I was trying to carry out the Great Commission of Jesus Christ, saying 'carry the Gospel to all corners of the Earth,'" he said.

Christianity is outlawed in North Korea and anyone caught with a Bible can be sent to a labor camp, along with members of their family.

Fowle said, in hindsight, he wouldn't take such a risk again. He said he regrets the harm that could have come to his family if he'd been detained for years.
