A Category 4 hurricane is bearing down on Bermuda.

Hurricane Gonzalo is packing winds nearing 140 miles per hour, making it the strongest Atlantic hurricane in three years.

It's 250 miles wide and the current track has the most dangerous portion heading right for Bermuda.

Earlier this week, residents descended on hardware stores in anticipation of the hurricane's arrival.

"We sold out of generators this (Tuesday) morning, and items like batteries, tarp and ropes have been flying off the shelf," Mark Stearns, a hardware store general manager, told Bermuda's Royal Gazette. "Everything that is on the hurricane list has been going fast and furious.

"People are definitely nervous about this storm," he said.

Gonzalo is expected to hit on Friday.
