Hundreds of female Kurdish fighters are joining the fight against ISIS.

Recently a young Kurdish woman known as Rehana became an online sensation after pictures of her showing the victory sign went viral on social media.

ISIS claimed to have beheaded her, but other reports say she is alive and well.

One female fighter explained that the women "fight to protect our homes and avoid becoming slaves of ISIS."
