The number of fighters leaving home to join al Qaeda and the Islamic State is higher than it has ever been before, according to a recent U.N. report.

U.N. officials say at least 25,000 people from more than 100 nations have joined Islamic terror groups recently.

The report shows the number of foreign fighters increased by 71 percent between mid-2014 and March 2015.

Syria and Iraq are the most popular destinations and have become an "international finishing school" for Islamic fighters.
