Boko Haram Surges Despite Claims of Their Demise

At least 80 people are dead after attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in northeastern Nigeria.

The Islamic terrorist group, which has pledge allegiance to ISIS, is proving it is still a viable force in the country, despite President Mahammadu Buhari's claim just in the last week that Nigeria won the war against Boko Haram.

The newly elected Buhari made defeating Boko Haram a pillar of his recent presidential campaign, vowing to wipe out the insurgents by the end of 2015.

Sources say more attacks are imminent, as Boko Haram seeks a show of force in direct conflict with the Nigerian president's claim that the terrorist group has been eradicated.

In the most recent attacks, two young female suicide bombers detonated explosives in a crowded Madagali market, killing 30 people.

Nearly 100 miles away in Maiduguri, Nigerian troops engaged in a battle with Boko Haram fighters who were trying to enter the city. The fighting left more than 20 dead and nearly 100 wounded.

The insurgents were spotted trying to cross a trench to get into the city, trenches that were designed to prevent Boko Haram from entering the area. The terrorist group used rocket-propelled grenades. Most of the victims were killed outside of a mosque.

Also in Maiduguri, a female suicide bomber detonated an explosive at a checkpoint.

Boko Haram has killed thousands in Africa, making it the world's deadliest terror group, according to the Global Terroism Index. Nigeria has experienced the greatest increase in terrorism.
