Kurdish fighters have pushed Islamic State militants out of the key border town of Kobani in Syria.

Tuesday the fighters won a bloody battle that's been going on for four months.

It's a significant victory for both the Kurds and the coalition led by the United States.

The victory in Kobani came at a high cost.

"The city has been fully liberated," said senior Kurdish official Idriss Nassan, speaking by telephone from inside the town. He said Kobani is "nearly destroyed."
