Human trafficking is on the rise in Britain, according to U.K. officials. They note many of the victims are arriving from Nigeria and being forced into domestic slavery or prostitution.

Numbers show more than 2,000 victims were reported to police in 2014. That figure includes 244 from Nigeria, a 31 percent increase from the country in the previous year.

Kevin Hyland, Britain's anti-slavery commissioner, said the actual statistics are likely even higher. He said many of the victims are lured with false promises and then stripped of their identity.

There have also been cases that involved agricultural workers and people aboard fishing boats.

In December, Britain's Home Office estimated there are 10,000 to 13,000 potential victims of slavery in Britain.
