Nearly 100 public schools have closed in Kenya as teachers refuse to work out of fear of terrorist attacks.

More than 2,000 Christian teachers in northern Kenya have stopped showing up to work because they fear for their lives.

The news comes after Somali terrorists from al-Shabaab killed 148 Christian students at Garissa University College in northern Kenya in April.

Although that region of Kenya is predominantly Muslim, schools rely heavily on Christian teachers.

The Religion News Service reports Kenyan authorities say nearly 500 other schools are facing the possibility of shutting down.
