A Christian pastor in China is facing one year in jail for asking questions about the forced removal of crosses from church rooftops in the country.

Pastor Huang Yizi is the first person to be jailed for opposing Zhejiang province's intense campaign to remove crosses from churches.

The 40-year-old pastor was detained in August, and was sentenced for "gathering crowds to disturb social order," Zhang Kai, his lawyer, said.

"I think the whole trial was manipulated by the authorities," Zhang told The Telegraph.

Authorities in the province tore down about 400 rooftop crosses last year, saying they violated the building code.
