Republican presidential candidate John Kasich says he would set up a government agency to promote Judeo-Christian values overseas to counter propaganda from Islamists.

The Ohio governor says the agency would advocate the values of human rights, democracy, and the freedoms of speech, religion, and association, with a focus on the Middle East, China, Iran and Russia.

He believes the United States is failing to advance its values in the battle of ideas.

"We must be more forceful in the battle of ideas," Kasich said in a speech at the National Press Club. "U.S. public diplomacy and international broadcasting have lost their focus on the case for Western values and ideals and effectively countering our opponents' propaganda and disinformation."
