A Bangladesh pastor is alive today, thanks to his wife who heard his screams as he was being attacked by three men.

The attackers came to his home Monday pretending to want to learn about Christianity.

Rev. Luke Sarker, 52, told police the men attacked him with a knife and tried to slit his throat. But as he shouted, his wife came to his rescue and the men fled. Police later recovered a motorbike from outside his home.

The incident in the predominately Muslim country follows the killings of two foreigners last week. Islamic jihadists claimed responsibility for those deaths.

Bangladesh has been struggling in recent months with a rise in violence claimed by hard-line Islamic groups.

Police arrested a member of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, a student-run wing of the Islamic political party Jamaat-e-Islami,  related to the attack on the pastor.

"We are questioning him," local police official Biman Kumar said.

Sarker suffered minor injuries.
