Just weeks before sanctions start to be lifted under the nuclear agreement's provisions, the Iranian military tested a new precision-guided ballistic missile, possibly violating U.N. Security Council resolutions.
The agreement prohibits Iran from activities related to ballistic missiles capable of carrying a nuclear payload.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said there are "strong indications" Iran violated the agreement, but said such violations are nothing new and they are "altogether separate from the nuclear agreement that Iran reached with the rest of the world."
The State Department said the United States will raise the matter with the Security Council.
