A French judge has charged a teenager with terrorism after he attacked a Jewish teacher with a machete.

The 15-year-old Turkish Kurd hacked at the teacher who was walking on the streets of Marseille.

He told police after his arrest that he acted in the name of the Islamic State.

A Jewish leader in France is advising fellow Jews to stop wearing their religious head covering for now, as anti-Semitic attacks there escalate.

Overall, terrorism has been on the rise in France. Last week, a man who had a been living in a German asylum shelter tried to attack a police station in Paris with a butcher knife.

That came as Paris marked the anniversary of attacks on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and a kosher grocery store which killed 17 people.

Paris is also still reeling from the coordinated bombing and shooting attack orchestrated by ISIS in November that killed 130 people.
