A Closer Look at 'The Secret'

New Documentary Examines the "Law of Attraction"
Versus Biblical Teachings

CBN.com – Loveland, Colorado — There Is More to the Secret, a new television special and DVD from Grizzly Adams® Productions, explores whether the "Law of Attraction" presented in The Secret has a foundation in Scripture or if it is little more than a pop culture fad.

"At best, The Secret is incomplete," notes David W. Balsiger, senior producer of the documentary for Grizzly Adams. "What it fails to address is that there is something greater in the universe than the wishes of one individual. Our objective is to present the entire story using a biblical perspective to fill in what The Secret leaves out, which is the reason for the title, There Is More to the Secret."

The original bestselling book and DVD, The Secret was created by Rhonda Byrne, an Australian television producer. Released in 2006, Byrne presented what she referred to as the "Law of Attraction," essentially a retelling of theories put forth in The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles, first published in 1910.

In describing the "Law of Attraction" in its own marketing materials, producers of The Secret claim, "The knowledge of this law has run like a golden thread through the lives and the teachings of all the prophets, seers, sages and saviors in the world's history, and through the lives of all truly great men and women." They go on to guarantee that: "Without exception, every human being has the ability to transform any weakness or suffering into strength, power, perfect peace, health, and abundance."

As Grizzly Adams' Balsiger points out, "According to the Bible, our thoughts do matter, however," he adds, "God plays a pivotal role in strength, power, peace, health, and abundance. For thousands of years, humankind has known that people can control their own attitudes but not the events happening around them. Man clearly didn't create the universe and to believe that any one of us can influence our environment by somehow attracting what we want with invisible energy alone demonstrates a potentially self destructive naïveté."

The film is based in part on a New York Times bestselling book, There Is More to the Secret by Ed Gungor (Thomas Nelson).

Using drama, animation, and interviews with a diverse group of experts, There Is More to the Secret challenges the plausibility of the "Law of Attraction" and examines the role of faith and prayer to effect change.

Along with the one hour television special, the DVD has an additional sixty minutes of bonus features, including: The Universe and Its Singularity; Extended Expert Interviews; FaithGrowersTM Bible Curriculum; and a Pastor's Sermon Outline & Listener's Notes.
