Seeing Through the Lies: Unmasking the Myths Women Believe

(Regal Books)

“We’ve been sold a lie,” says author Vonda Skelton.  “A lie that says if we’re not beautiful or young or sexy, we’re not worthy.  And because our culture and its web of deceit are never satisfied with us, we’re never satisfied with ourselves.”

It’s with charming humor that Vonda Skelton helps women dispel common deceits they believe.  She confronts the disappointments women experience when they search for fulfillment and peace while blindly believing a lie.  Addressing topics such as marriage, motherhood, pride, work and the day-to-day busyness of life, she sheds light on the truth through amusing anecdotes, real life stories and scripture.

Ladies, It's Time to Let Go!

CBN.com – I’ve learned a lot during my years of speaking and ministering to women, and some things have surprised me. But nothing has surprised me more than this: We women have a hard time letting go of our guilt. Even if we’ve accepted God’s gift of grace and forgiveness, many of us still have a hard time believing He forgets our past. We still hear Satan’s lies of condemnation whispering in our ears.

Women voice their struggle everywhere I go. And it doesn’t matter whether the words roll out in a slow Southern drawl or escape at a clipped staccato pace; the heartfelt cry is the same. It’s the painful reality that we’ve failed, that we haven’t measured up, that we’ve let God down. The names change and the circumstances vary, but the sad truth is, we still feel dirty, we still feel ashamed, and we think we’re too damaged for ministry.

It’s another lie of Satan. The truth is, God doesn’t see us as we see ourselves. Our past failure doesn’t have to affect our future calling. And whether you’re a single woman, a mother of three kids or a grandmother trying to make up for lost time, God can still use you.

In his book God: As He Longs for You to See Him, Chip Ingram says that “what you believe God thinks about you determines how close you grow toward him.” Want to grow closer to God? It begins by realizing how God feels about you.

Our Father truly has a personal, specific plan for your life—and He’s ready for you to grab hold of the vision, ready for you to answer His call, regardless of where you are at the moment or where you’ve been in the past.

“It’s comforting to realize that God calls us from who and what we are,” says Nancie Carmichael in her book Selah. “You hear the call and present who you are—not who you wish you were—to see what he will make of you.”

The Lord wants to make much of you. He wants to give you the opportunity to be a woman of God. And He can, if you’re willing to start where you are today and look forward to becoming what He wants you to be.

Ashamed of your past? Join the crowd. Join the crowd of sinners in the lineage of Jesus. An annotation in The New Defender’s Study Bible says this about Jesus’ heritage:

It is significant that four women are mentioned in this royal genealogy of Jesus—Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and the wife of Uriah (Matthew 1:3,5-6). All four were special trophies of God’s grace. Tamar may have been a Canaanite who posed as a harlot to seduce Judah (Genesis 38:13-18); Rahab was also a Canaanite and had been a prostitute (Joshua 2:1); Ruth was a Moabitess (Ruth 1:4), a member of a nation committed to idolatry and opposition to the people of God; and Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife, was a Hittite woman who committed adultery with King David (2 Samuel 11:2-5). All of these women could, by the law, have been excommunicated from Israel, executed, or both. God, however, not only redeemed them, bringing them to saving faith in Him, but included them in the human genealogy of the royal line leading to Jesus.

A seducer, a prostitute, an idolater and an adulterer. If God was able to forgive and use these women for His glory, don’t you think He can forgive and use you?
