Is Bigger Better?
Posted: January 25, 2011

I have been reading as I’m sure most of you have, about how donations for non-profits and ministries are down again this year. Considering the state of the economy who could be surprised by this news?

Couple this with the reports that have surfaced regarding massive fund-raising efforts by different celebrities who wish to bypass the corruption associated with the United Nations, only to have huge sums of monies raised, missing, stolen or gone to corrupt officials. It is heartbreaking, indeed.

Sometimes, it can be discouraging when we see the amount of things that need to be done, and the vast numbers of people who have no other way to have hope, or help, unless it comes from people like us. Yet, I know, that God is faithful, always. He owns all the resources of this world.

It makes me glad that although we are small, we can do many things. Because we are connected to other ministries, we have resources that others don’t have. And yet, our funds are totally directed exactly where they should go and directly to the people in the field who are making it happen. We have first-hand accountability because we are there ourselves, or we have people in the field, who are there, directing and overseeing.

We also have reports that come in monthly, telling us of the progress being made, along with photos. Also, Nataliya and I visit the places where we are working to ensure all is going as it should be.

While it can be frustrating not to be bigger and able to do more, I see the value of being smaller, highly accountable and able to know that when the money is given, it is not going to government officials, or to corrupt politicians, but directly to the people who need it. So, I praise God for His faithfulness and His directing our small, but effective steps. We’re able to change lives for the better, even if it’s only one child or one family at a time.
