One of the places Orphan's Promise helps to support is a school for the blind in India. Students who live here need tuition and boarding costs or they cannot receive the help they need.
Here's a recent report from the administrator, about a special little lady named Sangita who attends the school—
She writes:
Scanning the throng of boisterous children playing in the schoolyard, one cannot help but notice the little lady dressed in red near the edge of the playful crowd.
With one hand on her hip and the other holding the much smaller hand of a young toddler, Sangita looks like an undersized mother tending to her child. "She loves mothering the others," Sangita's teacher comments. "She takes pride in leading them wherever they need to go."
In one moment, Sangita appears mature beyond her years. Moments later, she is the average 12-year-old, laughing, skipping and kicking her legs high in the air.
Though a natural caretaker, Sangita needs personal care herself, especially when it comes to school. Beyond her visual impairment, Sangita is also mentally disabled. Her disabilities led Sangita's family to leave her at the Calcutta Blind School at a young age. Even so, life's trials have not overcome this little lady in red. Sangita continues to work hard at school and stand out from the crowd through her genuine regard for the needs of others above her own.
It is children such as this who continue to inspire us to do what we do. I know it inspires you as well, and I thank you for helping us be the hands of Christ to help the helpless.
