Blessings in Our Back Yard

As you all know, Orphan’s Promise has primarily focused on aiding children in developing countries. Our work has taken us to over 50 countries throughout the world, and we’re still growing!

Recently, we received a request from good friends and long time supporters, Christian and Colleen to help with a project right in our backyard, Hamilton, Ohio.

The project is the Hamilton, Ohio Training Center, and we feel this is a very worthwhile project deserving support.

The program, operated by Pastor Diane Mullins of Calvary Christian Church is designed to help boys and girls in first through sixth grades with a Biblically-based after school education program. Because the Hamilton School System has lost government funding, there is simply not enough money to keep the present after school program operating. These very vulnerable children, who are at-risk in this low income community, had nowhere to go after school.

Left on their own, these children would be susceptible to any and every negative influence that comes with living in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Cincinatti. The Hamilton Project is giving these children a safe place to be after school, two days a week to start, and hopefully expanding to five days. Children are bussed to the church after school, and returned home in the same busses.

The Hamilton Project is also giving them critical skills to survive and to thrive as they get older: Computer skills, math and reading. The Center also provides opportunities to teach them about the love of Jesus through Biblical lessons. The program also focuses on discipleship and instilling moral values, so important at this young age an in such a violent area.

At present, 60 children are attending and benefitting from this program. Pastor Mullins has received approval from the Hamilton County School System to begin this program, and that is a major miracle in today’s world. Rarely do you see a school that will approve a Christian-based program, but they know how desperate times are and how much these children need help.

The Hamilton Project is a blessing to these vulnerable kids, and Orphan’s Promise is blessed to be able to help.

Note: Due to the sensitive nature of this program, we are unable to show any photos of the children involved.
